COCO

What to say about Coco. Trying to write a page about Coco is like trying to write a page about Scot. Saying that Coco is our cat is like saying that Scot is my opposite-sex domestic partner. It's a fact, but an understatement and doesn't even scratch the surface of our relationship. Coco is a very special friend. She and I spend a lot of time together. She follows me all around the house and we keep each other company. She sleeps in bed with us at night. She has coffee with me in the papasan in the mornings. We play, we fight. She steals my dinner. I toss her out the back door. I do the dishes and she hollers and complains. She is a very unique individual with moods and feelings and quirks.

Coco is a traditional Siamese. That means rounded head, instead of pointed, wedge-head. The pointy-headed, cross-eyed, kink-tailed Siamese is a modern creation. A hundred years ago, they didn't exist. I like "appleheads" or traditional Siamese better.

When Coco was younger, she used to express her displeasure at the world by peeing on the bed. Bad Coco. Unfortunately, her first owner didn't know that it was "a cry for help" and thought she was just a Bad Cat. Coco was to be sent away to the pound to be put to sleep for being a Bad Cat. Scot intervened and suddenly he owned a cat that peed on beds. Never having owned a cat, Scot wasn't sure what to do with a cat that peed on beds. So he took the cat to the vet. The vet put Coco on a special urinary-tract-maintenance-formula food in case the peeing problem was a urinary tract infection (it wasn't). The food had a lot of orange dye in it, to which Coco was sensitive. She started throwing up a lot. She weighed about six pounds for a long time.

Eventually, Scot took Coco off the (expensive) prescription diet (which was dry and dusty and yukky) and put her on a high-quality over-the-counter diet with less dye, which has been better for Coco. She weighs about seven-and-a-half pounds now. Still throws up from time to time but much less frequently.

I like it when Coco sleeps in a little curl. She's such a well-thought out little beast. All her limbs tuck away so conveniently...

I also like it when Coco is a cat-loaf. Like a little over-cooked bundle of bread. Here is a picture of a floor loaf.

Here she is lounging regally in the sun, on the camoflauge papasan cushion.

Here is a closeup taken with the QuickCam.

Are you tired of looking at photos of Coco? TOO BAD! Here is a photo of a ghost Coco, having rolled in drywall construction dust.

Here is a photo of the Co resting on a napping Scot and squinting happily at me. For those of you who have never had cats: a squint is a kitty-kiss... it shows contentment and happiness. Sometimes a dominant cat will squint reassuringly at a frightened subordinate cat, to show that he is nonthreatening. Sometimes a cat will squint cajolingly at you when you are eating.

Since getting a digital camera, I have taken many many photos of Coco. Hundreds. Luckily for you, I was able to narrow it down to only these few for the web site. I don't really know what else to say about Coco. I love her dearly. She is sitting on my foot right now, as I type this. After I get done with this page, she and I are going to go out and work in the garden. Well, I'll work and she'll supervise. She's very good at supervising.
